The Robert M. Clinger III Invitational Golf Tournament is an annual invitation-only event held at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on President’s Day each year.  The tournament was started in February 2007 by the founder, Robert M. Clinger III, as an outing for a large group of winter rentals vacationing in the Myrtle Beach area.  What started out as a small event with less than two dozen competitors has since grown to include golfers (gentlemen and ladies) from twenty-two states and an international field including competitors from Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Kenya, and several other nations.

The tournament is a team event that follows a modified captain’s choice format.  All players tee off on each hole.  The captain of the team selects the best tee shot to play, and the remaining three players hit from one club length from that spot, no nearer the hole.  However, the one club length cannot change the surface.  No player’s shot can be used consecutively on the same hole except when on the green.  In addition, each player’s tee shot must be used twice on each nine holes (1-9 and 10-18).

The victors are presented the prestigious and much coveted Obelisk of Victory trophy along with the bragging rights until the following year’s Invitational.
